Surf Lifesaving

KS2 had a wonderful time learning how to Surf Lifesave!

We were really proud of Fox and Stag class at their Surf Lifesaving Day. Everyone faced new challenges, whether it was swimming in the sea for the first time or coping with their first wipeout! We all learned new skills in how to make the beach environment safe and above all, it was a really, really fun day out. Thanks to all the staff and parent helpers who got us there! As you can see from the photos – it was a fabulous experience.

Splish, Splash, Splosh

We had a fantastic time at the National Aquarium as part of our Rivers and Coasts topic!

Our KS2 children learnt so much about life underwater – from sharks, manta rays and huge tuna fish to the smaller life in rockpools; it was a brilliant day for everyone.

You can see some of the photos we took during the day here:

Chicks in Otter Class

It has been a very eggciting week in Otter Class with the arrival of our new chicks.

For 21 days we had got used to the chiming sounds of the eggs rotating during our lesson times. However, things started to get moving on Tuesday when the eggs began to wobble.

On Wednesday we started seeing holes appearing in the egg where the chicks were making their daring escape into the big wide world, well just Otter Class.

Thursday morning we came in to see 6 chicks had hatched over night! During the day we looked at the new chicks and discussed how they had developed inside the egg and how challenging it is for them to break out. The chicks just kept coming!! We had 2 more hatch before break, 2 before lunch and then the last 2 in the afternoon!

It has been a great experience for Otter Class to see the beginning of this life cycle and we are looking forward to holding and feeding them next week.

Feel free to have a look at our new addition to Otter Class next week.

Newsletter 19 May

It’s been another busy week here at Bampton School. Here’s the newsletter for all those subscribed and also a copy of the School Pool help letter which went home with all children too.

Your School Pool Needs You!!

We have the most fantastic facility here at Bampton School and we want to make the most of it for our children, but we need your help.

We always try to use the pool every day, so that the children build on their confidence and swimming ability – we feel that it is a really important life skill!

Fox class have progressed amazingly in their weekly sessions at Tiverton Pool and we’ve invested in this to ensure our KS2 children get access to sessions like this in the future. It’s also meant we are able to take part in Swimming Galas and Aquathlons.

We would like all children to be using our pool in the same way every day.

For us to use our pool safely and to comply with Devon County Council regulations, we need at least two adults in the swimming pool enclosure as well as the teacher, to teach a whole class.

We already have qualified swimming teachers, however, during the day we also feel that it is important that we continue to run educational intervention programmes. With current budgeting constraints, we don’t always have the staff to do both.

It is difficult to run the pool in the way we want without volunteers.

Could you spare some time to help us please? We try and use the pool every day in the following sessions:

  • 9-11 (particularly Mondays)

  • 11-12

  • 1.45-3

Any help would be really welcome, please let us know via bamptonadmin@swsf.org or call 01398 331121.

Friday May 5th Newsletter

We hope you had a good Bank Holiday weekend – it was a busy one for our Year 6s with Exmoor Challenge! With news on that and more, please see our Newsletter below:

Exmoor Challenge 2017

Well done to our wonderful Year 6s who participated in the Exmoor Challenge on Saturday 29th April! You all worked so well together, spurring each other on when needed and remembering to have fun and smile throughout!

It has been a fantastic journey during training, seeing so many of the Year 6s develop over the months. We have seen the children grow so much and they have impressed us every mile. In total our Year 6s have walked just over 61 miles!

We are all really proud of you! Here’s some pictures of the Exmoor Challenge. Thank you to all the parents and staff who helped with the training and thank you to Laura Lander and Ella Stephens for the following pictures!

Letters this week

Parents will have noticed a few letters and School Gateway messages this week and whilst we’ll summarise some of that information in next week’s Newsletter, we know it’s useful to have those letters to hand on our website too.

We’ve brought you information on Y2 SATs (or Secret Agents in Training! Thank you to the many parents who came to that meeting), Y2 Shark Sleepover, KS2 WOW trip to the National Aquarium and our wide range of After School Clubs for the Summer term (amongst other nuggets!).

Here are the letters again for your perusal. We wish you a pleasant Bank Holiday weekend – and best of luck to our Year 6 Exmoor Challenge Walkers in Year 6!! We will be thinking of you!!

See you all on Tuesday.

Summer Term Letters

There have been quite a few strands of communication this week, so to ensure you have everything we quite often group things into one post on the website as well!

Each class has sent out their termly “KIRFs”, Summer Newsletter, Homework Grid and anything else that’s pertinent to the beginning of term and the “Splish, Splash, Rivers and Coasts” topic. The teachers will also update their Class pages so do check those as the term progresses in case you lose the paperwork!

Mr Bladon sent out his Welcome Back newsletter and the office have published a Friday newsletter too. These are published on the Newsletter page but are also at the bottom of this post.

As ever there’s always our usual “pings” to parents on the School Gateway app, as well as the various tweets that staff send out.

As in the Newsletter, Club letters and Trip letters will go out next week and the website calendar is updated regularly. The School Lunch Menu is available to help you when planning and booking your child’s meals each week.

We look forward to another fantastic Summer term – it’s always a busy but productive one!
