Dear Parents and Carers,
It is incredible that we are already at the end of the Spring term and this is our last newsletter - time has certainly flown by!
Thank you to all those who were able to attend our Open Afternoon and Parent Forum last week and our Parents Evenings this week. It is always so lovely to share the children’s successes with you and to recognise the fantastic progress they have made.
I was thrilled, if unsurprised, when our SENDCO Mrs Dickinson gave me some fantastic feedback from the Devon County Council SEND Advisor who came and visited the school last week. He was looking at how the school environment supports learning for all children but in particular our children with SEND.
He noted the great rapport between pupils and staff and the calm and purposeful atmosphere of the school amongst other things, but what stood out to him was our wonderful Nursery. He felt that every area of the Nursery facilitated learning through play and noted that this was reflected in the displays, the independence and curiosity demonstrated by the children. No wonder our Nursery numbers have grown so fast! Many congratulations to Mrs Grabke and Mrs Atherton for their nurturing care and creative planning. Although filling up fast, we do still have places available for next term.
I am also delighted that our Breakfast Club and After School Club have become so busy! Mrs Kemp does a marvellous job of feeding and entertaining the children who extend their school day and I am so pleased that we are able to offer this support for working parents.
All our support staff need recognition for their hard work. Together with our teachers, they go above and beyond a normal work day and all our staff demonstrate that working in school is an absolute vocation. From starting work earlier than expected, going on residentials to weekend excursions practising for the Exmoor Challenge, I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their dedication to ensure your children get the best possible provision.
Have a wonderful Easter break. We look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Tuesday 22nd April.

Good luck everyone!
Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class
We have had a fantastic start to the new term over the past couple of weeks. The children are enjoying the new topic of ‘robots and machines’ and are working incredibly hard on the core subjects of maths and English. One of the highlights of the term so far has been swimming. We have been lucky enough to swim 3 times in 2 weeks! The children have been fantastic and are already making excellent progress.
Squirrel Class
have had an excellent aquatic start to the term and have impressed us with their determination in the swimming pool. We are so lucky to have the swimming pool and are determined to use it as much as possible this term. In Literacy we are reading The Magic Finger and have written instructions for the Gregg family on how to build a nest. In art we are focussing on sculpture in our ‘Stick Transformation Project’ and have made stick people, influenced by Guatemalan worry dolls.
Fox Class
What an exciting start to the summer term we have had in Fox Class! Our recent residential trip to Bath with Otter Class was a resounding success, and the children truly shone, making us all proud of their behaviour and enthusiasm. In Maths, we have launched into an engaging unit on fractions.. Meanwhile, in our writing sessions, we are exploring third-person narrative descriptions, allowing the children to express their creativity. We have also embarked on our studies of the Romans, and the learnings from our visit to the Roman Baths will undoubtedly enhance their understanding and excitement. In Science, we are delving into 'How Things Work,' where we’ll explore electricity, forces, and magnets throughout the term.
Otter Class
After an extremely exciting few days in Bath, we are back to business in Otters. We continue our work in decimals, putting into practise our knowledge and converting back and fro into fractions. In English we are looking at third person narrative stories, looking at the more technical aspects of writing. In History, we continue our exploration of the Romans – newly inspired by the trip to the Roman baths last week! In Science, we are moving onto electricity, forces and magnets and the way in which they inform our daily lives.
Stag Class
This week we have been writing play scripts and learning how to change the tone and style of a character’s voice depending on who they are talking to. We have added scenes to Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the class have done a great job of adding to this already exciting plot. In reading we have also finished our most popular book yet, ‘Bot in the Tower’ by Polly Ho-Yen. The kids loved it so much I am sure they would be excited to try some more of her books at home!

Hedgehog
Jack in Hedgehog Class
Jack has made an amazing start to life at Bampton, proving to be a great all rounder. Jack has a love of learning and he has already made lots of friends. Well done Jack, keep it up!
Elaina in Hedgehog Class
Elaina has had a super week and has impressed all of the staff in EY with her amazing story writing. Elaina has also been practising her reading at home every day and continues to be a star.
Well done Elaina, Keep it up!

Squirrels
Freddie in Squirrel Class
Freddie has worked his socks off this year and he has made enormous progress in both Maths and English as a result. He has worked so hard in reading that he has moved into Grey group as he is reading with such increased fluency. This is also reflected in his writing. Freddie is a kind and helpful member of Squirrel class, always offering to help. Well done Freddie.
Lexi in Squirrel Class
For showing the character virtues of determination in swimming. We have been really impressed with Lexi’s listening and concentration in the pool as well as her determination to safely exit the pool. This is a tricky skill to learn but she did not give up and pulled herself out of the pool and has mastered this essential life skill. Lexi is always so enthusiastic and friendly in class and puts in 100% effort every day. Well done Lexi on a fantastic year so far in Year 1.

Foxes
Elis in Fox Class
Elis has made a very positive start back to school this summer term. He has shown the character virtues of motivation and determination in his work across the board and has been showing a particularly good attitude towards presentation. Elis has also been a very good working partner showing helpfulness and kindness.
Fox Class
For being incredible on the Bath residential. All the children on the residential showed enthusiasm and impeccable behaviour. They were a credit to the school and their parents. All of the adults who came into contact with them remarked on their manners and their listening skills. I am very proud!

Otters
Cora in Otter Class
Cora has shown huge resilience over the past term, working hard and showing great determination in her lessons. Her great good humour and willingness to keep trying while also showing great kindness to her friends is lovely to see. Keep it up, Cora!
Everyone in Otter Class
For their outstanding behaviour, the way in which they made the very most of every learning opportunity and the infectious good humour that they showed while we were away in Bath, this week’s stars are all of Otter Class!

Stags
Sreevind in Stag Class
Sreevind has done such a wonderful job of settling into our school and, over the months he has been here, has become a popular member of our class. He is working so hard on his English and learning is now able to show a lot more of what he can accomplish in our lessons. I am so inspired by the determination and confidence that he is capable of.
Toby in Stag Class
Toby has spent years building a fantastic reputation in our school by regularly being there for others and always considering those around him. This week he has outdone himself by giving up an opportunity for himself so that one of his classmates could take it instead. This incredible act of kindness really shows you the lovely character that Toby has and I am so proud to celebrate it!
Well done Everybody

The PTFA is made up of parents, carers, teachers, and friends of Bampton School with a shared interest in raising funds for equipment, resources, and activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.
We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.
We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.
If you can help in any way, or would like more information on the work we do then please contact bamptonptfa@gmail.com or look out for meeting dates on the school website, posters around the school or for notes in your child’s book bag.
