Dear Parents and Carers,
Many thanks to those of you who were able to attend the Open Afternoon and Parent Forum last Monday. It is always wonderful to see children sharing their learning with their parents and it was a great opportunity to hear your views on how we can further improve the school.
We had such fun when the library van visited on Thursday. All the children had the opportunity to visit and choose a book and much excitement and enthusiasm followed. We are so lucky to be part of the Schools Library Service to increase and improve our library stock. Visiting a library promotes a love of reading for pleasure which as we all know is
such a valuable life long gift.
This week we were delighted to invite Rosie from Edukid into school to talk to the children about education in Uganda and in particular for our sponsored pupil, Stephen. We are looking forward to seeing Rosie again on Zoom next term when she talks to us from Uganda with Stephen.
The school has been positively throbbing with singing in preparation for the Bampton ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’ on 6th December at 6.00pm and the Nativity and Christmas concert on the 10th and 11th of December in the church. We very much look forward to seeing you all there and as always are incredibly grateful to the PTFA for manning the stalls at the Christmas Lights Switch on and for providing refreshments in the church after the Nativity.
Christmas Jumper day is on Thursday 12th December to raise money for Children in Need. Children may come to school in a Christmas jumper on that day in exchange for a donation to the charity. This week, we will be holding a ‘Christmas Jumper Swap’ if you would like to bring in any old Christmas jumpers that may have been outgrown, we will put a table outside on Friday after school so you can swap for a new one without having to go shopping! Alternatively, decorating an every day jumper would be a wonderful way to demonstrate creativity!
A polite reminder please to use the path when coming up or down the hill rather than the road. We want to keep all children safe and there are often cars on the road who won’t be expecting pedestrians!

Here are this week’s Times Table Rockstars, Superstars! We would like everyone to celebrate our top scorers and those who have made amazing efforts. All staff have been so impressed with children’s enthusiasm and determination to improve their times tables knowledge. If your child’s name is mentioned in the newsletter, then there is a 3 house point reward! Your child has a Times Table Rockstar login, which can be used at home too.
Good luck everyone!
Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class:
Hedgehog and Field mice children have continued to enjoy our ‘Celebrations’ topic. In the past 2 weeks we have been learning about Diwali and St. Andrew’s Day. We have been busy making Diya lamps, creating Rangoli patterns and looking at Mehndi patterns linked to Diwali. For St. Andrew’s Day we have looked at how the day is celebrated and then learned about tartan and even had a go at making our own using weaving.
Squirrel Class:
Squirrel Class have demonstrated the Character virtues of resilience in the writing this week as we have been writing about how Mog feels in the story Mog’s Christmas by Judith Kerr. In RE we have been looking at nativity paintings from around the world and learning the Christmas story. In DT we completed our pictures with moving parts which we took home to share with our grown-ups and finally, more crafting has taken place throughout the week for the Christmas fayre.
Fox Class:
It’s been another busy couple of weeks in our classes! In maths, Fox Class have been diving into column addition and subtraction, and the children are getting the hang of it brilliantly. Otter Class have also been learning about how to measure Area in shapes. In English, Fox Class wrapped up our letters to the giants – fingers crossed they take our pleas seriously and halt their destruction! Otter Class have been learning the best ways to perform poetry and what poetic devices make a poem most powerful for the reader.
Our science lessons have taken a rather messy turn as we've explored digestion; the hands-on experiment was quite a sight! Now, we're moving on to explore the different types of teeth and their functions.
In Geography, we’ve been working on understanding OS maps, which has been a fantastic way to get to grips with navigation and the great outdoors. Lastly, our PE sessions have been filled with excitement as we're playing handball – who knows, we might have some future Olympians among us!
Stag Class:
Over the last two weeks we have been learning how to locate countries in the world including studying hemispheres, lines of latitude and longitude and continents of the world. At the same time we have started work on building websites in computing and will be using this new skill to create our own websites to showcase our geography work. In maths we have done lots of work on fractions and I am really impressed with how well the class can now add, subtract, compare and order fractions.
Hedgehog
Lola in Hedgehog Class
Lola has impressed us with her amazing ability to be a friend to all. Her kindness and compassion make her a brilliant member of class. Lola has also been reading lots and is improving her phonics every day. Well done Lola!
Elaina in Hedgehog Class
Livvy has really made a step up with her listening and concentrating this week. I was very impressed with her phonics when I listened to her and she always enjoys singing and dancing in preparation for the Nativity show. Well done Livvy!
Squirrels
Lauryn in Squirrel Class
For demonstrating resilience and motivation. We have all been so impressed with how much progress Lauryn has made in reading, writing and understanding English. We have noticed how quick her word reading has become in phonics. Lauryn can recall longer sentences and uses her phonics knowledge to write them beautifully, always taking care with her letter formation.
Kylie in Squirrel Class
For demonstrating the character virtues of confidence and critical thinking. This week we have been really impressed with Kylie’s sentences describing Mog the cat. We have seen huge increase in Kylie’s reading in phonics and her writing. Kylie is also always offering to help tidy and is a very helpful member of Squirrel Class.
Foxes
Incorporating Otters Class
Charlotte in Otter Class
Charlotte for determination and perseverance. She tries her hardest in everything she does. She quietly gets on with her learning, asks when she is not sure and takes great pride in her achievements! Well done Charlotte, I am very proud of you!
Leo in Otter Class
For taking such a delight in his learning, always being ahead of the game and sharing his understanding with others. Leo is an energetic and enthusiastic pupil who soaks up knowledge like a sponge. Leo you are a superstar - very well done!
Stags
Michael in Stag Class
Michael is being recognised for the incredible resilience he is showing. He is working through some tough times but is still showing great dedication and enthusiasm for his learning and making us all very proud of him.
Ellora in Stag Class
Ellora is receiving the award to celebrate how well she is doing with her writing. I have been so impressed with her enthusiasm for completing new pieces of work and particularly where narratives are involved as she allows her imagination to run wild and she shares this with her readers.
Well done Everybody
The PTFA is made up of parents, carers, teachers, and friends of Bampton School with a shared interest in raising funds for equipment, resources, and activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.
We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.
We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.
If you can help in any way, or would like more information on the work we do then please contact bamptonptfa@gmail.com or look out for meeting dates on the school website, posters around the school or for notes in your child’s book bag.
