Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another wonderful fortnight with lots going on in school as usual.
The highlight of last week was the Youth Speaks competition run by the Rotary Club. We entered 3 teams and hosted the event in school. The children spoke brilliantly about a topic of their own choice and we were very proud of them all. Particularly pleasing was that Toby, Robyn and Fennick’s team came first with their talk on Ultra Processed Foods. In addition to this, Ellora won best Chairperson, Toby won best Proposer and Ella, who only stepped in at the last moment because another child was ill, won best Vote of Thanks.
We were also delighted to welcome parents to this term’s Parent Forum on Thursday where parents were able to hear from Mrs Gleeson, our SIO and from Mrs Dickinson, our SENDCo. We will be holding another of these Forums where you will get the opportunity to ask questions or make suggestions for what we can do towards improving our school, later in the term.
On Monday this week, our Yr 5/6 girls were fantastic ambassadors for our school when they played in the Tag Rugby tournament at Tiverton High School. There were lots of other schools there and the girls did us proud playing brilliantly and coming 3rd overall. We are very grateful to Mrs Standford and Mrs Chant for accompanying the children and to Tiverton High School for running these events which brings such valuable transitional opportunities to the pupils.
Also this week, Mr McCutcheon has held two phonics workshops to support parents to understand how phonics is taught in our Read Write Inc phonics programme. As I write, they are yet to happen but I am sure they will be well attended.
Next week on Monday, we have invited parents of children in yr 3 and 4 to come in to find out about the Bath Residential. On Thursday we are grateful to the PTFA for running the School Disco (see poster attached at the end of the newsletter). We have an inset day on Friday so half term for the children will begin on Thursday evening.
Have a lovely half term and a restful break.

Good luck everyone!
Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class
have continued to learn about continents over the last 2 weeks, focusing on Australia and Europe. In Australia, we learned about the huge array of animals in the country and we created our own amazing works of art based on aboriginal designs and patterns. In our Europe week, we enjoyed learning about different landmarks and created mini pizzas from scratch. They were delicious!
Squirrel Class
have shown curiosity and motivation in literacy this week. After our visit from Bob, the man on the moon we have been writing about a day in the life of an alien. We enjoyed making up alien names and using exciting adjectives to describe our new character, as well as planning his /her day. Now we have heard that people are not visiting the moon as much as they used to so we are writing persuasive adverts to encourage more visitors to the moon. In history we have enjoyed researching Mary Anning and David Attenborough and using role play to remember their achievements,
Fox Class
In Maths, we’ve been reasoning about multiplication and exploring the commutative law, linking multiplication with division equations. Soon, we’ll dive into our first lesson on column multiplication. In English, we've wrapped up our fantastic Spy Fox stories, which have been such creative reads! Now, we’re beginning to think about non-chronological reports. Over in Science, we’ve been investigating how chocolate changes from solid to liquid and back again. The children are really honing their skills in identifying variables and conducting fair tests. We’ve also concluded our unit on the Stone Age to the Iron Age.
Otter Class
In our lessons this week we have been carrying out more experiments in Science - this time, melting chocolate again, but this time measuring the temperatures at which it reforms as a solid. Year 4 are becoming experts at using thermometers and recording observations! In History we spend our last lesson on Prehistoric Britain looking at hillforts, roundhouses and burial practices. In English, we have finished Spy Fox and moved onto non-chronological reports. In Maths, we have moved onto measuring perimeters and length. A very positive, busy and fun two weeks!
Stag Class
In maths this week we have finished our unit on fractions and we can now add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions. This has taken a lot of practice but I am proud of how much progress Stag class has made towards this. We are also coming to the end of our topic about space and have finished off by creating powerpoint presentations about either astronauts or comets and meteors on our chromebooks. These should be saved on Google Classroom so feel free to ask your child to see their work when we finish it next week.

Hedgehog
Effie in Hedgehog Class
Effie created an amazing piece of art based on aboriginal designs, showing patience and creativity in abundance. Effie is always a star in phonics and maths and really pushes the rest of the children to reach her high standards. Well done Effie!
Ella in Hedgehog Class
Ella has really impressed me with her language this week, particularly in maths and phonics. Ella has been trying really hard in all areas and I hope to see this continue going forward. Well done Ella!

Squirrels
Isla in Squirrel Class
Isla has really impressed us with her determination in maths over the last couple of weeks. She has really worked hard to ensure her number sentences and numerals are written correctly and has also been practising these at home. Isla always listens carefully to instructions and is growing in confidence sharing her ideas in maths after partner talk. Well done Isla for your brilliant progress in year 1 so far!
Edith in Squirrel Class
Edith embraces everything in school with such curiosity and enthusiasm. She is very articulate and can express her ideas confidently and thinks deeper to question and reason why and how things happen. She is also a superb role model in the classroom, always ready to learn and gives 100%. Thank you Edith for your continued effort and cheerfulness in everything you do!

Foxes
Ted in Fox Class
For showing motivation and determination with his handwriting. Ted has been working super hard to master his joins, and it’s fantastic to see him applying what he’s learned in his handwriting book to his other writing in class. Well done Ted!
Sophia in Fox Class
For showing motivation and determination to her learning. Since September, she’s really grown in confidence, particularly in maths, where her progress has been massive! It’s wonderful to see her developing the ability to contribute during whole class discussions, and she’s doing so with much more assurance. Well done, Sophia!

Otters
Leo in Otter Class
Leo has shown great positivity and maturity this week, both in his approach to his learning and also in friendships. He has been working hard on his presentation in his books and this has paid off superbly. Well done, Leo!.
Brayden in Otter Class
Brayden has had a fantastic week showing us all what a fantastic learner he is! His determination to finish his Spy Fox writing, his attention to detail in his presentation and his approach to his work has been excellent. Brayden can always be relied upon to make sensible decisions, do his best and encourage those around him to do the same. What a star!

Stags
Ella in Stag Class
Ella made us all proud by showing the confidence to stand in at the last minute and compete in the Youth Speaks competition. After doing a wonderful job of speaking loudly and clearly she even won the award of best voter of thanks for her efforts.
Lucas in Stag Class
Lucas has been showing much better effort in his homework over recent weeks. He makes sure that these are completed over the weekend so that he doesn’t have to worry about them for the rest of the week and this has been paying off as his scores in our weekly spelling tests have improved massively!
Well done Everybody

The PTFA is made up of parents, carers, teachers, and friends of Bampton School with a shared interest in raising funds for equipment, resources, and activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.
We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.
We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.
If you can help in any way, or would like more information on the work we do then please contact bamptonptfa@gmail.com or look out for meeting dates on the school website, posters around the school or for notes in your child’s book bag.
