Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you all had a wonderful half term and enjoyed the break. The past couple of weeks have whizzed by as usual and we are looking forward to hearing all about the Stag residential in France. I understand that the children have been fantastic while away and the teachers have really enjoyed the trip as a result.
Back at home, the children have been very well supported by our supply teachers and by the TAs, admin and support staff. Our ‘French’ afternoons were great fun and all the children heard familiar stories in French, learned about the French Impressionists, French food and famous French landmarks. They have been amazing in their enthusiasm to learn all things french, and to be helpful to unfamiliar staff. They are a real credit to you!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Emma Larcombe very much for her hard work as administrator over the past couple of years. Emma (along with Caroline) kept the school running smoothly and she will be very much missed. We wish her all the best as she moves on to her next adventure. We also welcome Freddie Hallett as our Kitchen Assistant. Along with Matt, Freddie is also one of our cleaners and it is lovely to have her in the team during the day!
I have shown a number of visitors around the school recently and every time I do, I am reminded (not that I need to be) of what a remarkable and wonderful school we have. Every visitor remarks positively about the children’s behaviour and their engagement and the friendliness of the staff. What a privilege it is to be part of that.
Our most recent visitor was Archdeacon Andrew from Exeter Cathedral who came to lead Collective Worship for Ash Wednesday. Archdeacon Andrew commented on how knowledgeable and enthusiastic the children were and was impressed by their understanding of Lent.
Our pancake racing to celebrate Shrove Tuesday was great fun and the children showed great skill and determination to run and flip the pancakes and get them back into the pan without dropping them. Eating them afterwards was even better!
Next week we look forward to our own World Book Day and I hope that everyone will take part in the Bampton Book Treasure Trail and visit the display in LARC as part of that. Thank you to all those parents who sent in pictures of their children reading in strange and unusual circumstances. We will be dressing up on Thursday as characters from our favourite books and we welcome The Bookery into school once again as part of our celebration of all things literary! They will be coming with a selection of books at discounted prices (£6.00 for one, £10.00 for two). Children wishing to buy books will need to bring cash into school on the day and give it to their teacher for safekeeping please.

Have a lovely weekend,

Good luck everyone!
Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class
have been learning about weighing, mass and capacity. During maths they had lots of fun weighing and measuring all of the small equipment in the classroom. They demonstrated excellent knowledge in RE explaining how the world was created and why it is important to care for it. If that wasn’t enough they have learned how to count to five and sing songs in French. Their teacher was really impressed with their energy and willingness to learn.
Squirrel Class
have loved reading Stanley’s Stick in literacy, this book is witty, full of lyrical prose and lovely language. Stanley’s Stick is ordinary, but it can be anything, which has really motivated, captured and encouraged us to use the power of our imaginations. We have also learnt how to sequence events in a story and used new and interesting adjectives to describe a setting. We have savoured learning about France this week, especially the crepe racing and tasting! As well as learning some french greetings we have also researched and completed a fact file.
Fox Class
Fox’s have been learning how to write instructions using a particular structure, imperative verbs, prepositions and adverbs in English this week. We have used the book ‘How to Wash a Wooly Mammoth’ to base this on which they have enjoyed immensely. In Maths they have been dividing with remainders and working out the best ways to do this. In the afternoons we have had great fun trying to paint like an impressionist, making a delicious sounding french menu from french food and singing french songs.
Otter Class
In our science lessons we have moved on to look at different environments and habitats and the different adaptations that animals and plants have evolved in order to survive and thrive. We have begun our new topic in Geography, looking at the physical and human features of the United Kingdom. We started by identifying the countries, counties, capital cities and regions of Britain.. In English, we are continuing with non-chronological reports, identifying formal and informal techniques and exploring the more technical features such as imperative verbs and prepositions. In Maths, we have moved onto fractions and are converting mixed numbers to improper fractions and back again. Our French themed afternoons this week have shown what fantastic budding linguists there are in Otters Class!
Stag Class
This week we have had an incredible time enjoying France and learning a lot about the culture and the history of the country. During our visit we explored two of the war cemeteries in Normandy, walked along the beaches where many of the D-Day landings happened, learnt about the Bayeux Tapestry which shows the Norman Conquest and visited the spectacular Le Mont Saint Michel. We also found time in between all of that to visit Bampton’s twinned town, Villers-Bocage where, as well as having a photo taken by the sign, we sampled some of the fine delicacies that French boulangerie’s have to offer. I was so proud of how our Bampton children behaved - they were a real credit to themselves and the school!

Hedgehog
Dory in Hedgehog Class
Dory has been a star since coming back after half term. As well as being her usual hard-working and helpful self, Dory has been listening to advice and really taking her writing to the next level. Well done Dory!
Ella Rose in Hedgehog Class
Ella Rose has really impressed her teacher this week who nominated her for the Character recognition certificate. She has demonstrated excellent manners, answered questions in great detail, following instructions well and being very helpful. Well done Ella Rose for being so impressive!

Squirrels
Jesse in Squirrel Class
For demonstrating the character virtues of motivation and critical thinking. We have noticed a huge change in Jesse’s writing in the Spring term as he is now using spelling and grammar rules he has learnt from our phonics lessons. Jesse is confidently writing in the past tense, using adjectives and spelling red words with increasing accuracy. In maths he works independently as his reading is opening so many doors to further his learning. Well done Jesse!
Edith in Squirrel Class
Edith embraces everything in school with such curiosity and enthusiasm. She is very articulate and can express her ideas confidently and thinks deeper to question and reason why and how things happen. She is also a superb role model in the classroom, always ready to learn and gives 100%. Thank you Edith for your continued effort and cheerfulness in everything you do!

Foxes
Gully in Fox Class
Gully has showed the character virtues of motivation and perseverance with his reading this year. It has been really nice to see him developing a real love of reading. I have been really enjoying having conversations with Gully about the books he’s reading. Keep up the good work Gully.
James in Fox Class
James has impressed me this week with his enthusiasm to give everything a go and his delight when he gets things right. He loves succeeding but doesn’t get downhearted if things go wrong. His resilience is wonderful to see and his joy of learning is infectious!

Otters
Sylvie in Otter Class
Sylvie is a superb student - always pushing herself to meet her own high standards, always striving to understand and apply any new learning that she encounters. She is kind, patient and a wonderful friend to all. Super job, Sylvie!
Ruben in Otter Class
For showing real motivation and determination, Ruben throws himself into every lesson and the growth he has shown as a learner and as an increasingly confident and lovely young man reflects this. He loves to read, which is showing in his written work and his vocabulary; he has a huge curiosity for the world around him and he is keen to share his enthusiasm, which I love! Ruben, you are a super part of our class and you make me proud every day!

Stags
Lucas in Stag Class
For showing great determination and perseverance as well as having a very positive attitude towards his classwork, Lucas has steadily improved his approach to school life over the last few months. He is really discovering that hard work pays off and we are really starting to see some big improvements in several subjects. He has also become a formidable TT RockStars player and recently achieved Rock Hero status after a huge amount of practice.
Rory in Stag Class
Rory had a fantastic time in France and really impressed us with how independent he can be and how courteous he has become. Several staff from other schools commented on how polite he was and he quickly managed to make several new friends. He also eagerly took part in everything and didn’t let the fact that he was missing home wipe away the massive smile that was on his face the whole time.
Well done Everybody

We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.
We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.
If you can help in any way, or would like more information on the work we do then please contact bamptonptfa@gmail.com or look out for meeting dates on the school website, posters around the school or for notes in your child’s book bag.
