Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the new term and Happy New Year! I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break and are feeling rested!
The end of last term was predictably, incredibly busy! We had such a whirlwind of events and the children were brilliant. The residents of Barnhaven Care Home were enthralled by the beautiful singing from Squirrel Class as were members of the public in the Toucan Cafe who were serenaded by our Choir Club accompanied by Mr Narramore on Guitar.
Father Christmas popped in on his way to the North Pole to say hello to the children after they had finished their Christmas Lunch and gave out presents to all the children. I was particularly privileged to have tea with the children in Silver Birch (Green) House who won the most amount of House Points over the term. The competition was tough with only a few points between teams. Very well done to all the children who collectively won so many House Points that we ran out of counters and had to use pieces of coloured paper!
We were very sad to say goodbye to Mrs Pagett who has been coming in to support SEND, and we are very grateful to her for all the stirling work she has done with the children in our school. Happily, Mrs Pagett will still be coming into school on a voluntary basis!
We are now looking forward to a chilly but eventful term. Children in Stag Class will be preparing for their trip to France in March, plans are afoot for sporting events, visitors, and trips out.
We are delighted to welcome Primary Sports Education coaches back into school and Mr Taylor has already made his mark on the children. He will be coming in on Wednesdays and Thursdays to deliver PE to every class. Primary Sports Education would like to run a holiday club in half term so keep an eye out for that on their website.
Have a lovely weekend,

Here are this week’s Times Table Rockstars, Superstars! We would like everyone to celebrate our top scorers and those who have made amazing efforts. All staff have been so impressed with children’s enthusiasm and determination to improve their times tables knowledge. If your child’s name is mentioned in the newsletter, then there is a 3 house point reward! Your child has a Times Table Rockstar login, which can be used at home too.
Good luck everyone!
Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class
have been enjoying our new topic called ‘Continents and Dinosaurs’. This week we have been learning about the oceans of the world, continent names and dinosaur names. In PSHE we have been thinking about how to keep our bodies safe and in R.E. we have been thinking about who is special to us and why. In P.E. we have enjoyed doing gymnastics and dance.
Squirrel Class
have got straight back into their learning routines this week and have impressed us with how resilient they are after 2 weeks off. In maths we have been learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. In art we are learning about Expressive painting and have recorded in our sketchbooks our impressions and vocabulary relating to artists Charlie French and Marela Zacarias. In PE we enjoyed gymnastics which we be focussing on this half term.
Otter Class
have been fantastic this week through all the various staff changes. Particular comments have been made by the supply teachers regarding how well behaved and helpful they are - I am not surprised but am also very proud of them! This week they have begun the second maths unit on multiplication and division in maths, and in English have been finishing off their stone age stories which are now ready to publish! The next story they will be writing will have a particular focus on using the third person in narrative. We will continue to follow the yr 3 part of the two year rolling programme for foundation subjects so that there are no gaps in their learning. They too are learning about solids, gases and liquids and the Bronze Age.
Stag Class
have had a productive week back and impressed me by carrying on where we left off in our maths lessons where we finished off multiplication and are now working our way through division. They have also already started earning some marbles for excellent class behaviour. We have lots of exciting activities coming up over the next half term such as writing stories based in ancient Egypt, getting started with our preparation for the Exmoor Challenge and learning some conversational French that we can use during our upcoming trip.
Hedgehog
Freddie in Hedgehog Class
Freddie has been a superstar in Hedgehog Class this week. He has shown the character virtues of motivation and respect by listening attentively and following all of the school rules. Keep it up Freddie, well done!
Squirrels
Jasper in Squirrel Class
For demonstrating character virtues of resilience and confidence joining Squirrel class this week. We have been so impressed with how Jasper has settled into a new school, adapting to new routines and making new friends. He has been listening carefully to instructions and joined in class discussions on the carpet. Keep up the good work!
Foxes
Kleo in Fox Class
For showing the character virtues of motivation and determination in her work this week. She has come back this half term with a better attitude towards her work.
Otters
Daniel in Otter Class
Daniel has shown tremendous resilience this term when routines have been knocked out of kilter and different staff have been teaching the class. I am so proud of Daniel for his resilience and his perseverance in his work. Well done Daniel - keep up the good work!
Stags
Harry in Stag Class
For showing the character virtue of determination over the last few weeks. Harry’s focus has improved so much throughout this school year and I am really proud of the effort he is putting into his work. The results are paying off and he is really growing in confidence in his writing and his maths because of how hard he is working.
Well done Everybody
The PTFA is made up of parents, carers, teachers, and friends of Bampton School with a shared interest in raising funds for equipment, resources, and activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.
We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.
We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.
If you can help in any way, or would like more information on the work we do then please contact bamptonptfa@gmail.com or look out for meeting dates on the school website, posters around the school or for notes in your child’s book bag.
